The week kicked off with a Launch Event in Falkirk on 12 May, which saw an empty shop unit transformed into a creative hive of activity as local arts and crafts groups came together to engage with the public and invite them to have a go at their activities. Watch this short video of the event to get a taster of what happened on the day.
In the week that followed, over 120 events took place throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland as part of Voluntary Arts Week 2012. A wide range of art and crafts groups/ organisations got involved, listing events such as; arts and crafts taster sessions, public performances and group exhibitions as well as creating window displays of their work as part of our ‘What’s in your Window?’ campaign. A fantastic way to showcase their group and welcome new members!
The enthusiasm of all those involved inspired Kelly Donaldson, VAScotland Information Officer to write this brilliant article, ‘Voluntary Arts are more than amateur’ which featured on the Guardian Culture Professional Networks website – definitely worth a read.
We are already working towards making Voluntary Arts Week 2013 even bigger and better. Watch this space for more details! We will be updating the Voluntary Arts Week website, adding lots of resources, hints and tips in the run up to the event to inspire and support your involvement so please keep in touch if you would like to get involved.
